Week 9

Hello,
This week we had a speaker come talk to us about wordpress. He went through all the steps of putting together a very simple website. All the information I learned today will be very helpful when I am creating my final project. I am looking forward to learning more about word press as I go along with creating my project. We also talked some more about dream weaver. Although it seems like an interesting program I am choosing to use wordpress for convenience. I am using wordpress because I can work on it anywhere. As the weeks are winding down this will be the last new thing we learn about. One more blog post to go.
Until next week

Week 8

Hello,
This week we took a look at coding. I have never had any experience with coding. We started out on a beginner program called hour of code. It was an easy introduction to coding. It also was a lot of fun. They make coding in to games and puzzles to make it easier to understand. Coding has never been something I have delta with before but I actual found it very interesting. Working with this program made me want to learn more. Hour of code is a great program for any age. As we keep moving forward with technology learning how to code will be a great skill. I look forward to learning more next week.
Until next week,
Alyssa

Week 7

Hello,
This week we looked a little more at podcasts and had sometime to work on our assignment. I am going to read a children's story for mine. Although I have not finished I have learned a lot about the program. Today we also started working on building an app. We first took a look at some apps and planned a lesson around them. Then we used the website Ibuildapp.com to make our own app. Although we only went through the basics I learned a lot. An app can be very helpful in communicating with parent and helping keep in touch and letting them know what is happening. Making an app is a cool process and one that will be a useful tool when I become a teacher. An app is an easy way for parents to stay informed. This week was very informational and I am looking forward to discovering more.
Until next week,

Week 6

Hello,
This week we finished creating Google earth tours. I did mine on places to visit in Oregon. This program can be helpful when teaching children about different places around the world. This week we also started to look at making podcasts. Podcast can be a great tool for children to use on their own for extra resources as well as incorporating them into the classroom. Our new project is to create a pod cast. For this project we can do a number of things including reading a book or going through the letter sounds. Today we just took a look at the garage band application, but we have yet to actually start the podcasts. We also talked about the challenge of making multiple choice questions meaningful and to require deeper thought. We also took a look at how to tell if a website is reliable or not and went through some of the ways to decipher whether or not a website is reliable.
Until next week,

Week 5

Hello,
Today we went over some more features of Google earth and got a reminder of how to make our tour. We also had a guest speaker. Today we were introduced to many programs some I have seen before. The first program was story bird. This program allows you to make a story with illustrations easily available. This could new a way to get children excited about reading. Then we were introduced to prezi which is a program I have already used, and can make presentation more interesting and smoother. We also took a look at Google doc which almost everyone has used. We talked about how we can use this in the classroom, and it can be helpful for group interactions. We were also introduced to a few more programs during the presentation. All of the programs we saw were interactive programs were users can interact and comment to each other. We also took a look at some teacher standards and interpreted the meanings of these standards. I'm sure all of the programs we saw today will be helpful in the classroom setting in the future.
Until next week,

Week 4

Hello,
This week we finished up with using iMovie. First my group finished up the movie we were making last week. Then we got an assignment where we were given a half an hour to make a movie trailer using iMovie on the iPad. The iMovie app on the iPads is a little different than the one on the computer. However after using the computer program I found it easy to navigate the iPad app. This lesson taught me that students can make movies in a short amount of time. I think that making a movie is a creative way to bring lessons to life and that it could make the children more engaged. With how easy it is to use kids could make a short video about the book they read to make it really come to life. This would help them to really understand what happens in the book. Next we were given the assignment using Google maps. Using Google maps can be helpful when talking bout a new place to give kids the opportunity to see the places being talked about. I have not figured out all of Google maps yet or finished the project but I'm sure I will learn a lot about the program as I finish the project.
Until next time,
Alyssa Roberts.

Week 3

Hello,
This week we are focusing on making a short video. We spent sometime thinking about ways to use videos in the classroom. Videos can be helpful we learning about a new place to get a better idea of what it looks like. Videos are also more attention grabbing than just a picture. You can also use videos by having the students make videos about books or other things to really bring the lesson to life. I have not worked with iMovie before so this should be a learning experience for me. We choose to do our 30 second video about recycling. We made our plan today about the video and are planning to start it soon. There is much to learn about how to make a video and I am looking forward to learning about a new tool. This learning experience will be helpful to get some sort of grasp of what the program can do. Although I'm sure technology will change a lot between now and when I start teaching, I do believe this will be a helpful tool to have some experience with. Students are getting more and more creative when I comes to projects and I want to have knowledge of as many programs as possible so I can help them.

Until next week, Alyssa.
